What Happens to Your Writing

You are handing a piece of software the thing you have been working on for years. You are entitled to know exactly where it goes.

This page is the whole answer: what leaves your world, what does not, who receives it, and what we promise about it. It is written to be checkable rather than reassuring.

The short version

• Most of MythTapestry never sends your writing anywhere. Writing, organising, maps, timelines, relationships, the graph — all of it happens between your browser and our database.
• Seven features do send text, and they are the ones marked as AI features. They are listed below, individually.
• One AI feature runs on our own server and sends nothing out at all.
• Nothing you write is used to train anyone’s model. Not ours, not a provider’s.
• You can turn AI off entirely — or pay for a plan that has never had it.

What never leaves

Everything that is not in the list below. Your prose sits in our database and is sent to your browser when you open it. Your entities, relationships, calendars, timelines, maps, canons and containers are the same. Reading, writing, organising and searching your world involve no third party at all.

Tip

The plainest version of this: the €9 Lorekeeper plan has no AI features whatsoever. Not throttled, not limited — absent. If you want a worldbuilding tool that never sends a word of your writing to anyone, that is a plan you can buy, and it exists on purpose.

What runs on our own machine

Smart entity detection — the feature that notices Maren in your prose and offers to link her — uses a model called GLiNER that runs on our server. Your text is processed in memory and is not sent to any AI provider.

It is worth saying plainly because it is the one AI feature where “AI” does not mean “somebody else’s computer”.

What is sent, and where

Seven features send text to an AI model. Every one of them goes through a single company, OpenRouter, which routes the request to whichever model is doing the work.

Nothing is sent by any of these until you ask for it. There is no background process that reads your world and sends it somewhere.

Who is behind OpenRouter

OpenRouter is a router, not a model. It passes the request to a company that actually runs the model — Anthropic, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Google and others, depending on which model is selected for the job.

That means your text reaches two organisations: OpenRouter, and whichever model provider served the request.

What we promise

Your writing is not used to train models. Every request MythTapestry sends carries an instruction that it may only be routed to providers who do not collect or train on what they are given. That instruction is part of the request itself, not a setting on an account somewhere — so it applies to every call, and it is written into the code rather than remembered.

We do not read your world. Nobody here opens your prose out of curiosity. We access world content only when you ask us to for support, and only for as long as it takes.

We do not sell it, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the providers named above, who need it to answer the request you made.

AI is never mandatory. Every AI feature is something you choose, on a plan you choose. The features can be switched off, and there is a plan without them.

We will tell you before any of this changes. If we add a provider, change what is sent, or alter what we promise here, we will say so plainly and before it takes effect — not by editing this page quietly.

Caution

What we cannot promise is what someone else’s terms say. OpenRouter and the model providers have their own policies, and they can change them. What we control is what we send, and who we allow it to be sent to — and that is what the paragraphs above describe.

Turning it off

Every AI feature can be disabled for a world in World Settings. A world with AI switched off sends nothing to any provider, whatever plan you are on.

If you would rather not have the option at all, the Lorekeeper plan has no AI features in it.

Using your own AI account

On the Mythwright plan you can supply your own OpenRouter key. When you do, requests are billed to your account rather than ours, and your own OpenRouter settings apply alongside the instruction MythTapestry sends.

Your key is encrypted before it is stored, and it is never shown back to you in full or sent anywhere except to OpenRouter.

Taking your world away

None of the above is a lock-in. You can export your entire world — the writing, the graph, the images, all of it — at any time, on any plan, including one that has lapsed. See Taking Your World With You.
